Lea and Donovan are back, this time discussing a topic that seems like it could almost be cut and dry, but it’s not really that simple. The topic: Reproductive equality, i.e. should men have equal reproductive rights as women? What does this really mean?
The southern couple, both of whom are pro-choice on the question of abortion, draw their arguments from a Vice article that discusses the case from almost 11 years ago of Matt Dubay vs. Lauren Wells, in which Matt and Lauren dated for a while, broke up and then Lauren found herself pregnant. Matt, at the age of 25, didn’t want to be a father. However, Lauren, apparently pro-life from the context of the article, wouldn’t have an abortion. Thus the legal challenge that Matt issued — why shouldn’t he have the same reproductive rights as women, except in this case, to NOT be financially responsible for a child that he didn’t want in the first place.
Lea and Donovan discuss and definitely come at the issue from two different angles.
