It’s that time of year again — school time! Lea and Donovan discuss an article that Donovan came across where a Mom wouldn’t allow her child to accept his reward for perfect attendance at school. Lea thinks that striving for perfect attendance and being rewarded for it is a good thing. Donovan, on the other hand, doesn’t see the benefit of it and fears it may set up an expectation in the work place.
Along with back to school comes the school supplies lists — something that both Donovan and Lea don’t understand, at least in regards to some of the items that are requested. At what point was the responsibility of providing tissues, paper towels and toilet paper get shifted from the schools to the parents? One teacher has taken to standing on the side of the road with a side asking for money for classroom supplies — and she made more in one hour than her teaching salary.
Finally, corporal punishment in school, i.e. paddling. Some states prohibit it, some states specifically allow it and the rest just don’t seem to care one way or the other. In Texas, however, there’s a school district that has voted to make it front and center for misbehaving kids — as long as the parents are ok with it. Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
