The married couple discuss “that holiday in November” that seems to get glossed over because all the stores are hocking their Xmas wares starting at the end of September, beginning of October. Growing up, Lea and Donovan’s experiences with Thanksgiving were quite different. Being a female in the south, Lea’s Thanksgivings entailed being one of the “workin’ women” that prepared the food, served the food and cleaned everything up while the men-folk ate and then talked among themselves afterwards. Being a male in the south, Donovan’s experience wasn’t quite like Lea’s viewpoint on males, but he definitely didn’t have to cook or clean (that came in later years).
After they were married and eventually had kids, Lea and Donovan, at Lea’s behest, changed up the traditional Thanksgiving, much to the dismay of some of their family. Instead of spending hours slaving over a stove and oven, Lea decided to do quick and fun Thanksgiving meals like turkey subs, etc. It’s been years since their family has had a traditional Thanksgiving meal with any of their extended family and they really don’t seem to have a problem with that (though Donovan still loves turkey and dressing, dammit!)
The question they put to you: Do you still do a traditional Thanksgiving meal with a large family, or have you changed it up a bit and if so, what effect has that had on your immediate and extended family? Let the couple know by sending them an email of your story!
