Donovan announces the show will be on hiatus for a while.
Archives for June 2018
After a short hiatus, the entire gang is back! They start off the show discussing Amazon ending the Mayday live video support for Fire tablet devices; Facebook removing the Trending section on their site; new lifesaving features in iOS 12 will securely send your location data to 1st responders; Microsoft buys video discussion site Flipgrid (and makes it free); the WHO adds “gaming disorder” to the International Classification of Diseases (ICD); kids that almost ran their families into financial ruin with video games; Plume WiFi mesh routers can only be purchased with a yearly or lifetime subscription; Sam’s weird file; Donovan’s “Get Off My Lawn” segment dealing with Anchor; Netflix picks up Lucifer for it’s 4th season and Donovan recommend’s Stephen Fry’s The Great Leap years podcast.
Donovan takes the mic solo again, this time to talk about depression, something that’s been in the news lately due to some high profile suicides that have happened. Donovan talks about his own battles with depression, especially during 2012 when he lost his job and was facing the possibility that he could no longer provide for his family. Out of his depression, he wrote a book, which he credits (along with his wife) for helping him fight through it.
Donovan still has depressive episodes, he admits, and even uses this particular episode as a way to get through one.
You won’t find this episode necessarily profound or earth shattering, but it will give you some insight to how Donovan deals with life on a day to day basis.
Donovan flies solo on this impromptu episode while Shae is still getting himself together after moving to a new city and a new job! Donovan talks about changing tables in men’s bathrooms, Prince’s Black Album, The Walking Dead, Tuesday’s primaries and other ramblings.
Due to potential illness and job change, we won’t have an episode this week. Hope to be back next week!
It’s Sam and Donovan for this episode as life gets in the way for Shae (but he’s ok!). Donovan’s getting tired of the entire Samsung versus Apple patent lawsuits, Apple first accepts then rejects an app from Valve, third-party merchants are killing it on Amazon – but they’re also on Walmart (of all places!), Alexa records a private conversation and sends it along its way, some Windows 10 users are having problems with the 1803 update, Edge is still better at battery conservation, check your router — it may be hacked, some serious concerns about new EU proposed regulations — Donovan’s concern that something like them could happen here, Vermont takes charge against data brokers, if you loved SciFi in the 90s then you definitely loved Babylon 5 and it’s coming to Amazon Prime Video (if you don’t think it’s the best SciFi show from the 90s, don’t talk to Donovan), Pandora adds a family plan, the science (maybe) behind why an upcoming appointment makes us less productive and cryptocurrency mining may use up all the power!
